SVP – Befriending

This is an appeal from the SVP (St Vincent de Paul) which is a charity supported by the Roman Catholics in Springfield. It would be good if we could support them in this admirable work.

Jenny Clayton, Springfield President, writes,
In my voluntary role with SVP Springfield, we have been receiving a large number of referrals recently, both to the furniture project and for befriending.
We need to recruit additional befrienders especially to visit the elderly, many are referred via their GP as they are lonely and isolated. We visit people face-to-face in their home normally although have done more on the phone during the pandemic so currently do a mix of the two.
We visit people across the North Chelmsford area – Springfield, Boreham, Broomfield, Melbourne, Chelmer Village and sometimes further afield. Volunteers can be matched to those they visit, so they have something in common. We provide training, peer support and carry out DBS checks on volunteers.
Anyone who is interested is welcome to contact me to find out more – email [email protected] or phone/text 07796 393131.
