April 15th
Biblical idioms. We all have heard the phrases “an eye for an eye” and “salt of the earth”. How many other famous idioms from the Bible can you recall? Where are they spoken and by whom and in what context? Let’s do some digging.
May 20th
“Money makes the world go around”. It is certainly something which controls humankind, often in ways we may not like. It is the second most frequently mentioned concept in the Bible, following “love.” We’ll look at Bible references to money and see what lessons are to be learnt.
June 17th
Fire! The control of fire shaped human evolution and sets us apart from other animals. No wonder it has significance in many Bible stories. We’ll research some scriptural references.
July 15th
St Swithin’s Day!!! In the Bible, water is a rich symbol representing spiritual life, purification and God’s power. Water appears throughout the Bible from the very first chapter of Genesis to the final chapter of Revelation. We’ll read some watery stories from the Bible.
August 19th
Think about numbers. Commandments, pieces of silver, days in the wilderness—how many were there? Numbers in the Bible frequently carry symbolic significance beyond their literal value. We’ll examine some Bible stories which involve numbers.
September 16th
The Holy Bible. How did it come to be? Who wrote it and when? Who decided which books were included? We’ll take a very quick look at the complex history of the formation of our modern Bible.
